Will your next car actually fit your garage?

Check more than length and width. Compare the door opening, mirrors, roof height, internal space, shelving and useful access clearance before you buy.

A garage fit check built for real-world use

Choose from 244 UK-focused vehicle references or enter your exact dimensions. The calculator separates the garage-door opening from the space inside, because a car can fit inside a garage but still fail at the entrance.

What to check

Planning estimate: a positive clearance does not guarantee comfortable access or safe parking. Re-measure the actual garage, door hardware and exact vehicle before relying on the result.

Why “it fits” is not always enough

The useful question is whether the car can enter, park and still be practical to live with.

    Mirrors vs body width

The entrance may be the tightest point. Check extended and folded mirrors separately from the car body.

    Usable internal space

Shelving, pillars, freezers and stored items reduce the width and depth that your car can actually use.

    Access after parking

A car can physically fit yet leave too little space to open the driver's door or reach the boot comfortably.

    Measure first, buy second

Modern vehicles can be substantially wider at the mirrors than at the body. Garage door frames can also be narrower than the internal room, while door mechanisms, pipes and storage can reduce usable height or depth. That is why the calculator treats the entrance and the internal garage as separate checks.

For the most reliable result, measure the narrowest clear door width, the lowest obstruction above the entrance, the usable wall-to-wall width at vehicle height and the usable depth with the door fully closed.

Transparent data, not a black-box answer

Garage-fit results are calculated from the measurements shown on screen. Unknown mirror widths are not guessed, and every reference vehicle has a source.

    Garage fit questions

Should I use the car's width with mirrors?

Yes for the entrance unless you plan to fold the mirrors before entering. Internal parking space is usually better compared with body width.

Why distinguish physical fit from comfortable fit?

A few millimetres of positive clearance can be technically enough but impractical for daily use. The result flags limited clearances rather than treating every positive number as equally usable.

    Are the vehicle dimensions guaranteed?

No. Reference values are a convenience only. Model year, trim, tyres, mirrors, roof rails and accessories can change dimensions. Always confirm the exact vehicle specification.
